Sixth Form

As part of its careers education at Pangbourne College, an Apprenticeship Evening was held recently at school. Twenty pupils from the Sixth Form met in the Nancye Harding Recital Hall and another ten joined remotely.

Abigail Odel, Engagement Officer at The AIM Group, which specialises in training, employment and apprenticeship placements, delivered an informative and encouraging presentation on the benefits of apprenticeships, as well as routes into them. She fielded a number of questions from students and staff at the end.

Head of Careers and Enterprise, Mr Andrew Sumner, said: “It was pleasing to see so many pupils attending this online event. Apprenticeships have undergone significant changes in recent years: many companies now offer a diverse range of apprenticeships covering many of the core functions within any business. They are highly competitive and equally valuable to trainees and employers alike; they offer a salaried, multi-level entry, a structured path to a full degree qualification, with the added bonus of meaningful work experience.”

This apprenticeship evening was part of a coordinated approach to Careers education at Pangbourne College which starts in Form 1 and continues through to the Sixth Form. The school provides seminars with external speakers, access to effective online careers and subject suitability tests, practice interviews and personal development advice.
