We are pleased to announce our GCSE results for 2023 with an overall pass rate of 93% (Grades 9-4), remaining consistent with 2022 results. Grading for GCSE examinations has returned to 2019 levels. 76% of the grades awarded were between 9-5, which, under non-Covid conditions, is one of our highest-performing sets of results in recent years.

Mr Mark Seccombe, Deputy Head Academic, says: “Once again, I am delighted for our pupils receiving their GCSE results today after all their hard work and commitment over the past two years. Despite the return to pre-Covid grade boundaries, our pupils have delivered an excellent set of results, and some particularly impressive individual achievements. I am proud of them all and look forward to welcoming many of them back in September to start their Sixth Form journey at Pangbourne.”

Hard work and determination has pathed the way for numerous pupils to spend today celebrating. Amongst those is Freddy, who received eight Grade 9s and two Grade 8s, as well as receiving a Grade 9 in French, which he sat a year early in Year 10. Freddy commented on his success saying, “I’m really happy - I got even better than I expected! I will be returning to Pangbourne for Sixth Form to study Maths, Further Maths, Physics, French, and an EPQ.”

Joining Freddy in the celebrations are Imogen and Amy, who have both received their own impressive results. Imogen gained five Grade 9s and four Grade 8s. Amy says, “I’m very, very happy. I achieved four Grade 9s and five Grade 8s.” Amy plans to study Maths, Psychology and Economics at Pangbourne Sixth Form.

Another example of exceptional personal achievement is Henry, who gained fantastic marks with four Grade 9s and six Grade 8s. Henry plans on returning to Pangbourne to study his A Levels, where he will be taking Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics.

Mrs Stephanie Poynter, Head of Key Stage 3, comments, “I am so impressed with what our pupils have achieved, and they should be incredibly proud of themselves. Both their resilience and the way that they have applied themselves to their studies over the last two years have certainly been worth it in the end. We wish them all the best for their Sixth Form studies.”
