This term, in their English lessons with Mrs Rosemarie Seccombe-Wade, Form 2B have each been given the opportunity to write a talk about a person whom they have found inspiring and a talk about their future hopes and dreams. Recently, five of them spoke about Delia Smith, Queen Elizabeth II, Ovie Ejaria, Martin Luther King and Hollie Pearne-Webb respectively. Four of them gave insights into who they would like to become, for example, an England rugby player, a sports coach, a wildlife keeper and a professional rower. 

Mrs Alex Garnier, Headmaster’s Wife, said: “Everyone’s personal story is interesting and it was lovely to hear a good number of those speaking make reference to the influence of their families on the reason why they had chosen their particular famous individual or career path. As a teenager of the ‘80s, I was especially delighted to be reminded of ‘Delia’ and her culinary contribution to many households on the subject of eggs.”

From Leander Club for a professional rower, to Cambodia the birth-place of one of the speakers, to Marlow Hockey Club the home club of another, there was plenty to keep the audience present listening.

Mrs Rosemarie Seccombe-Wade said: “I was very pleased with the way in which this group researched their subjects and embraced the opportunity to create speeches of interest to their peers. Writing good speeches is an art form and executing them requires practice.”
