On Friday 12 May during The Head’s Assembly, Upper Sixth students Amélie, Cadet Captain (College Prefect) in charge of Pupil Mental Health, and Ed spoke to the College about Mental Health Awareness Week 2023.

Mental Health Awareness Week starts today on Monday 15 May and the theme this year is ‘Anxiety’.

The College community was encouraged to be proactive in gaining a greater understanding of the causes of anxiety and the possible solutions to it, as well as strategies to overcome it.

As Amélie said, ‘Anxiety is a normal emotion in us all. It is nothing to be ashamed of.  A lot of celebrities have spoken out in an attempt to remove the negative stigma.’

Ed reminded the pupils of the large number of individuals within our College community that pupils can turn to for support, such as their Housemistress/master, Assistant Housemistress/master, Tutor, Matron, one of the Nurses in the Health Centre, a College Counsellor, or a subject teacher that they get on well.

Ms Rebecca Atack, Head of PSHCE, put together a Tutor Session on this theme for College Tutor Groups to discuss this morning.
